As we enter the back-to-school season I thought it would be great to provide you with a few tips to be more organized. Guest blogger Anna Martin shares a few strategies for you to start the new school year organized.
Janet: What are some things moms do every school year that they should not?
Anna: From being a teacher to a mom, more specifically a mom to a medically complex child, I have learned the importance of being organized. I have also learned some things not to do to help me thrive in whatever circumstances we are facing. Here are some things to avoid at the start of the school year, but really at any time in life.
– Avoid saying yes to everything. When an opportunity arises and you always say yes, you will leave yourself feeling overbooked and overwhelmed.
– Avoid perfection. Perfection is an ideal that no one can live up to. When you strive for perfection and it ends up being less than perfect, it can place unnecessary stress into your life.
Janet: Can you share a few back-to-school tips for moms?
Anna: Here are a few of my back-to-school tips for moms:
– Have a morning routine for yourself. I find that when I wake before the kids to give myself some “me time,” the rest of my morning flows so much better without so much stress from rushing.
– Keep a calendar/planner. I have all important therapies and appointments written inside of my personal planner and on a family wall calendar. This helps keep everyone on the same page for what is going on throughout the week.
– Meal plan/prep and grocery shop on the weekend. Coming up with dinner ideas can be such a chore, and if I don’t have a plan in advance, our family will either eat takeout or just not very healthy. So in order to keep meals more organized, I plan all meals throughout the week on the weekend and grocery shop for everything I need. If prepping in advance is an option or necessary for the especially busy days, I do that on the weekend as well to make sure I’m setting myself up for a successful week.
– Pack lunches and lay out clothes the night before. By doing these two things, you cut down on the time needing to prep for the day the morning of. This helps keep your morning running smoother without having to rush so much.
