October is Health Literacy Month, a time to focus on how we access, understand, and use health information to make better choices. One of the most powerful steps you can take is to organize your health records—for yourself, your loved ones, and even the next generation.

That’s why over the years I have teamed up with My Body Passport (MBP)  and this month resharing a three-part conversation on why this matters more than ever.

Part 1: Our Moms, Their Health

Caring for our mothers means being prepared for anything. Whether it’s routine appointments or sudden health changes, having information accessible in one place makes all the difference.

Wendy shared how her mom uses MBP to keep track of multiple appointments and records. Even when technology lags, her mom has the details right at her fingertips—sometimes faster than the doctor!

For caregivers like me, having quick access to medications, diagnoses, and history reduces stress and ensures that doctors and emergency responders have what they need.

Part 2: Our Bodies, Our Health

When it comes to our own wellness, self-agency is everything. Think of MBP like your car’s maintenance booklet—track checkups, vaccines, and health milestones so you can compare visits and ask informed questions.

Women in midlife especially benefit from organizing health details around menopause, screenings, and family history. This tool helps ensure we don’t forget vital information in stressful moments.

Part 3: Our Daughters, Their Health

The next generation deserves a strong foundation of health literacy. Teaching our daughters to know their “numbers,” understand family history, and track their health builds habits that can change their trajectory for life.

From allergies and chronic conditions to general wellness, MBP helps young women manage health proactively and share information easily with friends, partners, or healthcare providers.

Why We Created This Resource

The idea came from a personal experience with my own health records. I realized that simply hearing “your blood work looks good” wasn’t enough—I needed to know my numbers, track them over time, and understand what “normal” really meant for me.

That’s where MBP came in: a simple, practical tool to organize health details across every stage of life.
