The Season is changing, kids are back in school and the Christmas decorations are in the store. After a Summer of fun who really wants to stay indoors and focus on the piles and clutter that have accumulated. If you are ready to take charge over your space check out these quick tips that will help you and your family clear clutter and fall back into organization.
Kitchen
- Go through your cabinets and toss expired items
- Donate duplicates (scissors, measuring spoons)
- Donate items you don’t use (the gifts or items you brought on sale you never use)
- Clean that junk drawer (toss the broken pencils, faded receipts and ear plugs that don’t work)
Closet
- Donate clothes from last year and season you won’t wear
- Donate shoes that are not comfortable and belts that don’t fit
- Organize items by categories (skirts, shirts) then color
Bedroom
- Clear the top of the dresser of items you no longer use ( perfumes, jewelry)
- Clear underneath the bed (the shoes you don’t wear, books, papers, etc)
- Clear the tops of your nightstand of the books you are not reading, newspapers you have read and medications you are no longer taking.
Bath
- Toss the expired items you are not using or will never use again
- Organize items in medicine cabinet by use (first aid, facial, dental)
- Use a back of the door organizer in the bathroom to increase storage space.
Entryway
- Purge your entry closet of coats, scarves, hats and gloves you no longer wear. Toss broken umbrellas.
- Organize shoes by the door using a rack
- Use hooks to place totes and handbags instead of placing them in the floor
Basement/Attic
- Toss the empty boxes
- Toss the broken items
- Store items that will remain in clearly labeled containers
Home Office
- Purge filing cabinet by tossing and shredding information no longer needed
- Clear the junk out the middle desk drawer
- Schedule time weekly to file, scan and shred information
Living Room
- Toss the junk mail
- Recycle the read newspapers and publications
- Place all incoming mail into a basket or decorative box
Garage
- Toss items that are broken and no longer usable
- Recycle items (old electronic equipment)
- Use the wall space to organize tools, bikes and gardening supplies
Car
- Get rid of the junk in your trunk
- Get the scraps of paper and other items cluttering the glove compartment
- Take a trash bag and clean the interior of the car tossing the bags from your fast food stops and remove items that need to go in the house.
